    Company

Our goal is to engineer reliable automation systems that improve safety, quality, and throughput for leading manufacturers.

    ABOUT US

    Built on engineering excellence

Founded in 1999 by systems design engineer Steve Matusch in Sudbury, Ontario, Ionic Automation began with a single project: a transfer car for Inco’s Copper Cliff Copper Refinery.

From those humble beginnings, the company has grown from a one-man engineering operation into a full in-house integration team.

Today, Ionic Automation unites design, fabrication, controls, and testing to deliver turnkey automation systems that help manufacturers scale production with confidence.

    Milestones that
    shaped our growth

    1999

    Foundation and first projects

Systems design engineer Steve Matusch takes the plunge, starting his own company in Sudbury, Ontario with this simple transfer car for Inco’s Copper Cliff Copper Refinery as his first project.

    2004

    Completed construction of first building

The initial project in the new building was the world’s first robotic copper stripping system.

    2008

    Expansion and integration milestone

Ionic opened a satellite office in Cambridge, Ontario, branching out from mining to provide factory automation solutions for the medical device, automotive, and energy industries.

    2017

    Robotics era begins

Ionic’s advanced robotics and vision systems become core capabilities. The Cambridge facility completes an expansion, doubling floor space to meet demand.

    2024

    Global project delivery achieved

Ionic successfully delivers projects across North America, Europe, and Asia.
